As a judge, Dierker presided over numerous civil and criminal trials, including nine capital trials and matters relating to abortion, religious liberty, and election contests. Earlier, as a practicing attorney, he handled labor and employment law matters and important constitutional and policy cases including school desegregation, election and voting rights, constitutional limits on taxes, and civil rights.
Dierker served as Presiding Judge of the 22nd Circuit in 1997-98 and in 1989-91 supervised the Circuit’s felony trial docket. Judge Dierker sat by designation on the Missouri Supreme Court and the Missouri Court of Appeals. Since leaving the bench in 2017, Robert Dierker has served as Chief Trial Assistant to the St. Louis Circuit Attorney and as Deputy City Counselor for the City of St. Louis. In the latter role, he handled matters litigated in the U.S. Supreme Court, the Missouri Supreme Court, and federal and state appellate courts. Now engaged in part-time criminal practice and mediation, Robert H. Dierker serves as Litigation Director of the Holy Joe Society.
Dierker authored The Tyranny of Tolerance (Crown 2006), a polemic on judicial activism. He is the author of two books on Missouri criminal law and procedure and co-author of books on Missouri tort and contracts law.
Robert H. Dierker holds an A.B. from St. Louis University, J.D. from U.M.K.C., and LL.M. from Harvard University.
